Alinda was established on a hill overlooking a plain on the western edge of the Karpuzlu Brook valley, 31 km to the west of the Çine district of the province of Aydın.

According to Bilge Umar the term “Alinda” came from the Luwi or Kar language and meant “Light”.

The ruins of the Ancient City of Alinda start from a few hundred meters ahead of the Demircidere Village (Karpuzdere). As a matter of fact, pieces of statues and frieze were used in the walls of the village houses located here and some houses were constructed on the walls remaining from the Roman period.

The Agora (Market Place) of Alinda is classified as one of the best among the Hellenistic agoras in Anatolia due to the excellence of the mural workmanship displayed on its walls.
